Free Internet for Families:

COMCAST and Spectrum are offering free internet services for those who do not currently have service. Please see below for details. This will help families navigate the eLearning lessons beginning March 31st.


Comcast – Internet Essentials:

Effective March 16, we are putting in place a substantial program to help

families deal with this crisis.

 Comcast will make it even easier for low-income families who live in a Comcast service area to sign up by offering new customers 60 days of complimentary Internet Essentials service, which is normally available to all qualified low-income households for $9.95/month

For new customers, applicants can simply visit The accessible website also includes the option to video chat with customer service agents in American Sign Language. There are also two dedicated phone numbers 1-855-846-8376 for English and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish.


Spectrum – Charter Communications

To ease the strain in this challenging time, beginning Monday, March 16, Charter  commits to the following for 60 days:

  • Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription and at any service level up to 100 Mbps. To enroll call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.
  • Charter will partner with school districts to ensure local communities are aware of these tools to help students learn remotely. Charter will continue to offer Spectrum Internet Assist, high-speed broadband program to eligible low-income households delivering speeds of 30 Mbps.

ShelbyGo: is available for medical appointments, grocery stores, pharmacies and the loop only (no side trips). If you have symptoms of the flu or the coronavirus, you will not be able to ride.

Groceries and Stores:

Dollar General: stores open from 8 – 9 a.m. for seniors and others who are medically fragile.


Kroger: order online and pick-up at store so you don’t need to get out of your vehicle. ($4.95 fee but first 3 orders are free)

Prescriptions can be delivered to your home for free within the Shelbyville City Limits. Contact: 317-421-2356


Walgreens: Walgreens Express home delivery or pick-up via the drive-thru (or in store) is available on eligible prescriptions (talk to pharmacy to confirm eligibility). Patient’s prescription insurance benefit must cover this service. Most prescription orders are available to be delivered to the patient’s home by the next business day – not delivered on Sundays or holidays. Free delivery available for a limited time only. Patient must create an account, have a debit or credit card, and be able to receive text messages on a smart phone. Contact: 317-398-8495


CVS: Free 1 – 2 day delivery on prescriptions and other essentials from March 9 – May. If you are going through the drive-thru to pick up a prescription, some over-the-counter products for pain, coughs, allergies, etc. are also available. Contact: 317-398-9791


MedWorks: Curbside pick-up. Call them when you arrive and your order will be delivered to you. The retail store is still open but you don’t have to leave your car for your meds in order to minimize possible exposure to the virus. Contact: 317-421-2020, option 0


Walmart: Order supplies online and pick-up at store so you don’t need to get out of the vehicle. Free. Contact: 317-392-4940


Walmart pharmacy: 1-800-2-Refill: meds can be ordered and delivered to the home.


Local Non-Profit Groups:

Salvation Army:

  • Carry out meals are served via the back door from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Drive thru food pantry from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. Monday and Contact: 317-398-7421


Seniors Helping Seniors: Will do their best to deliver items to older adults Contact: 317-604-5520


Shelby Senior Services:

  • Drive through food pantry at the center Mon, Wed, Fri for those seniors with Diabetes and Hypertension. Seniors are met at the door and handed pre-filled bags.
  • Home deliveries every other week.
  • ShelbyGo is available for grocery stores, pharmacies and the loop only (no side trips).
  • An older adult or the caregiver may call SSS and talk to someone who will help connect them with resources.

Shelbyville Indiana Giving Place: Over 1,000 members in this Facebook group give things away and make their needs known. No buying and selling, just giving and kindness. Someone who is homebound and needs help getting medication, food, etc. may post the need and folks will respond if they can help.



Society of St. Vincent de Paul: St. Joseph and St. Vincent de Paul Parishes will help per their limited resources and on an individual basis. They try to return calls within 24 hours. The store and warehouse are closed, but they can pull from their stock to assist. Contact: 317-395-7027


Governmental Services

Children’s Bureau can enroll families with children in Community Partners to assist with needs
