Serving as Director of the City of Shelbyville’s Planning and Building Department, Bryant is responsible for overseeing various community development projects and administering local land use and building policies within the City of Shelbyville, including planning and zoning, code enforcement, and all applicable building codes. Working under the leadership of Mayor Tom DeBaun, Bryant and his staff collaborate with other city departments to improve the quality of life of existing and future city residents while facilitating growth and investment in the community.
Originally a native of Rush County, Bryant graduated from the College of Architecture and Planning in May of 2016 with his bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning and Development and with a minor in Real Estate Development. While beginning his final semester at Ball State in January of 2016, Bryant was hired as Executive Director of the City of Rushville-Rush County Joint Planning and Zoning Office. While serving as planning director in his hometown, Bryant sat on the Stellar Communities Core Team and assisted the Mayor along with other community leaders in achieving the Stellar Communities Designation for the City of Rushville in the summer of 2016. Prior to his position in Rushville and Rush County, Bryant worked as a planning intern for American Structurepoint, the Blue River Community Foundation, and the Rushville Mayor’s Office.
In October of 2016, Bryant started as Planning and Building Director for the City of Shelbyville. Since then, Bryant has been involved in implementing recent long-range plans such as Shelbyville’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, Downtown Opportunities Plan, the Shelbyville Youth Action Plan, and the Plan for Public Art. These planning efforts outline and prioritize strategic quality of life investments in the City’s multi-modal transportation network and around the historic public square. In addition to his work in Shelbyville, Bryant also stays involved in the Indiana Chapter of the American Planning Association where he serves on the Board of Directors as Chair of the Membership Committee and formerly assisted in updating the Indiana Citizen Planner’s Guide as an educational resource for planning officials and board members across the State of Indiana.
